Emory’s Atlanta campus is in Druid Hills, about four miles from downtown and northwest of Decatur. Two small shopping areas sit at its edges. Emory Village, first developed in the 1920s at the end of the streetcar line to Emory, was revitalized in 2011 with new sidewalks, street furniture and a roundabout, and it holds the campus bookstore. Emory Point, a mixed-use complex on Clifton Rd surrounded on three sides by campus, opened in fall 2012; Emory’s Cliff shuttle serves it.
The Emory University Bookstore (1390 Oxford Rd), run by Barnes & Noble College, sells textbooks, Emory apparel for adults and kids, computers and Apple products, school and dorm supplies, gifts, books and vinyl. It is open Monday to Thursday 9am to 6pm, Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 9am to 5pm. Phone 404-727-6222.
Books and Gifts Around the Square
The nearest shopping district is Decatur, southeast of campus. Little Shop of Stories (133A E Court Square) is the independent bookstore on the square, with signed books and local authors, and Charis Books & More (184 S Candler St), the feminist and LGBTQ+ bookstore, is now on the Agnes Scott College campus. For gifts, HomeGrown Decatur (412 Church St) stocks only goods from Georgia and Southeast makers, Hearsay Goods (149 Sycamore St) has cards, games and home goods, and Wild Oats & Billy Goats (112 E Ponce de Leon Ave) sells work by local and regional artists. Squash Blossom (113 E Court Square) is the women’s boutique on the square.
For groceries, Kelly’s Market (308 E Howard Ave) makes sandwiches and has free parking behind the shop, and Oakhurst Market (650 East Lake Dr) has organic produce, a butcher case and prepared foods.
Shuttles, Stingers and MARTA
No MARTA rail station serves the campus directly. Georgia Tech’s Stinger buses, open to the public, include routes to Emory, and Emory’s Cliff shuttle serves Emory Point. Decatur has three MARTA rail stations: Decatur, East Lake and Avondale.
